About Art Camp 4 Grownups
Our History
Art Camp 4 Grownups started when camp leadership decided to offer life drawing and photography classes to its August adult encampment. As years went by, more and varied classes were offered, in watercolor, acrylics, and other favored disciplines.
For the 20th year, experienced and novice artists alike have the chance to enjoy a six-day exploration of art in the splendor of a lush and affordable mountain retreat. Artists come from near and far to take art classes from talented, passionate, professional artists, and enjoy the company of fellow creatives.
Although Art Camp is held in our beloved Camp de Benneville Pines, Art Camp is run by the volunteer dean, her distinguished teachers, and outstanding staff.
Our visionary founder, Laura Janes was succeeded by Betsy Gilpin, who served for over a decade. Since 2022 our current dean has been Abbey Chamberlain.
Come join us as we Celebrate our 20th year with special activities and treats!
How Art Camp Works
During Registration, you will choose an Intensive Class and a Cabin Preference. These are first come, first served, and waiting lists will be created in the order of registration after they are filled.
5-Day Intensives are the focus of our education! You choose one Intensive at registration then immerse yourself for 3 hours per day in one medium, building your skills over 5 days.
Afternoon Workshops give the added experience of learning new art-forms and enjoying favorites!
Our fun class atmosphere is supportive of the creative process, accommodating all levels of proficiency.
In addition to art, there are so many other activities available to round out your retreat; take archery lessons, swim, soak in the spa, do yoga, meditate in our clean mountain air, unwind, join an impromptu music jam, or just sit and create or visit with friends. You don’t need to sign up for any of these in advance—except Massage (for a fee) which fills up quickly. [VIEW FULL ACTIVITIES LIST]
All Classes & Activities are optional — except Orientation and our Fire Drill!

We offer a Non-Artist-Partner Discount if they wish to enjoy the full camp experience without the Art Classes. Everyone will have a splendid time!
With so many choices, each day can be as full—or as relaxing—as you desire. Take time to unwind and enjoy yourself. It is a retreat after all!
