The history of Art Camp 4 Grown-ups

For the 18th year, experienced and novice artists alike have the chance to enjoy a six-day respite from their everyday lives in the splendor of a lush and affordable mountain retreat called Camp de Benneville Pines.  Artists of all experience levels come to take art classes from talented, passionate, professional artists and enjoy the company of fellow artists.

Art Camp started when camp leadership decided to offer life drawing and photography classes to its August adult encampment.  As years went by and its popularity grew, more and varied classes were offered, in watercolor, acrylics, and other favored disciplines, in addition to the original two classes.

About Art Camp 4 Grown-ups

Today, the format of our artist retreat, Art Camp 4 Grown Ups, has evolved to offer a choice of 5-day intensive art modules from which campers choose one at registration.  These classes are limited in size in order to provide individual attention and to accommodate the medium’s venue.

Afternoon workshops give the added experience of learning new art-forms and enjoying favorites!

Class atmosphere is supportive of the creative process, accommodating to all levels of proficiency.

Brisk Morning Hikes

Afternoons offer a variety of more casual workshops that can be attended at will.  There are two fun artistic workshop sessions each of four days; with many choices.

Supplies are provided for the afternoon workshops, although there are some suggestions of optional items to bring.

Or take advantage of other camp offerings, such as archery, walking the labyrinth, or hiking, including morning guided hikes, swimming in the pool (with lifeguard), relaxing in the hot tub, or just chatting with other campers in the main lodge. Walk or drive to Jenks Lake.

Every morning begins with yoga. It is optional, and easy-going. Massage Therapy is available throughout the afternoon — by appointment.

Everyone loves Happy Hour!  It’s a great time to socialize and talk about the events of the day. During the first evening at camp, everyone is invited to talk briefly about his or her own artistic interests and show a few of their pieces. During the next several evenings, instructors take turns giving an inspiring presentation called “My Life as an Artist”.

On the last day of camp, attendees and their teachers set up an art show in the main lodge to exhibit some their favorite pieces for everyone to enjoy along with a sumptuous brunch before heading home around 1pm.

All activities and instruction at our Artist Retreat are optional. There are many choices, and each day can be as full or as relaxing as you desire. There is something for everyone.

Bringing a mate, inviting your adult children to join you, asking a friend to meet you at camp… everyone will have a splendid time in the forest.

Even with Art as the main focus, being in the mountains and having all your meals prepared for you, takes the pressure off of your daily routine and gives you a serenity that refreshes you and refills your spirit.
